Revolutionary Yiddish and Ladino Singing Workshop & 1for3 Fundraiser

Wednesday, October 21st | 7:00 - 9:00pm | BWC Building, 6 Webster Street, Brookline, MA

Join Boston Workers Circle, V’ahavtah, Minyan Zayit, and Kavod for a participatory group singing workshop and fundraiser based on Lu Coy’s Antifascist Yiddish un Ladino Songbook, which tells the stories of recent Ashkenazi and Sephardic ancestors who struggled for freedom and teaches the songs that fueled their movements. All proceeds from tickets to the workshop will go to 1for3 to assist in their efforts in providing access to education and food in the West Bank.

The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to Yiddish and Ladino, then, using the songbook as our guide, attendees will learn several Yiddish and Ladino songs and poems from socialist movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. Along the way, we will explore the lives of the people who sang these songs and consider what their struggles might offer us in today’s political moment. The workshop is designed to be accessible to everyone; no musical, vocal, or language experience is necessary. By the end, everyone leaves knowing at least one leftist song in both Yiddish and Ladino.
